The talk will discuss the origins and lives of the Native American community in Acoaxet, which has more 17th century Native American records than all of Old Dartmouth, said the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society.
Gifford will talk about people, including Mamanuah, the local sachem who was kidnapped in 1673 by agents of his stepmother, who was the ruler of a neighboring tribe; Alderman, who slayed King Philip while fighting for the English; and the “Indian justice” John Simon.
