They’ve already rolled out the welcome mat — now step inside.
On Friday, Sept. 20, the Lloyd Center for the Environment is opening up its new Welcome Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event starts at 11 a.m. at 430 Potomska Road.
The Welcome Center was constructed to greet, orient and introduce students and visitors to the Lloyd Center. The building houses a variety of features, including a bus drop-off shelter, interior and exterior meeting and teaching spaces, rain gardens and composting restrooms.

Saturday, Sept. 21

Observe art ‘en plein air’
Dartmouth Cultural Center is hosting its 6th annual “Wet Paint Padanaram” plein air event Saturday, Sept. 21.
The event sends artists out into the community to paint their surroundings, with a focus on the natural environment. The French term “plein air” refers to painting outdoors.
Artists come to the cultural center at 9 a.m. to get their canvas or paper stamped, proving that the work began that day. They then receive a map with designated public access points where they can set up for the day.
At their chosen location, they set paint until finished, or until 3 p.m. The artists then come back to the cultural center at 3:30 p.m. with their artwork, and the gallery opens to the public at 4 p.m.

Time to take out the trash
The Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District will host the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The drop-off location is Crapo Hill Landfill, at 300 Samuel Barnet Boulevard in New Bedford. An ID is required to attend.
Collection is limited to households — businesses, schools and contractors aren’t permitted. Visitors must also select a timeslot by visiting gnbrrmdistrict.org or by calling 508-979-1493.
See online for accepted items. The maximum amount of hazardous waste visitors can bring is 25 gallons or 25 pounds.

Buy a tree, hop on for a hayride and enjoy a farm-made lunch at this month’s Open Farm Day at Round the Bend Farm Saturday, Sept. 21.
The Open Farm Day, which occurs on the third Saturday of the month, will operate under normal hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 92 Allens Neck Road, but with a few additions this time around.
There will be a hayride at 10:30 a.m. that will take riders around Round the Bend Farm’s new orchard and its Manifest Love gardens. Reserve a spot for the ride on the online shop before space runs out.
Elements Learning Collaborative will also be hosting a pawpaw workshop at 11 a.m. during the event.

A day for Dartmouth
Celebrate the community at Dartmouth Day with games, face painting, a bounce house and more.
The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Allendale Country Club, located at 1047 Allen Street.
Food and beverages will be available to purchase, and the restaurant and bar will also be open to the public.

Mother nature sings
Nature’s rhythms are coming to the Lloyd Center on Saturday, Sept. 21 for the Environment’s Fourth Annual Music in the Woods.
The event is free for Lloyd Center members and $50 per carload for non-members, which comes with a free 6-month Family membership.
Along with featuring live music, it will include nature walks and interactive activities. The reserve will be dotted with live stages, ready for acoustic jazz, folk, and contemporary performances as attendees enjoy the natural beauty the center has to offer. ‘Stomp’ on by
It’s time to stomp the grapes with South Coast Vintage Market this Sept. 21 and 22 weekend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In collaboration with Running Brook Vineyards, South Coast Vintage Market will host vineyard tours and grape stomping throughout the weekend at 335 Old Fall River Road.
The event will also feature local antique, vintage, handmade and upcycled vendors and the winery will be open for glass sales and tastings.

Sunday, Sept. 22

The trees of Padanaram
The Dartmouth Tree Committee is hosting its third annual Dartmouth Tree Walk from 2 to 5 p.m. and it starts in the parking lot at the Dartmouth Schools Building, located at 8 Bush Street.
Participants should be at the lot by 2:15 p.m. to hear opening remarks from the Dartmouth Tree Committee and Friends.
The walk is a self-guided tour through Padanaram where participants can expect to see over 30 tree species in small, compact garden spaces. The event will take place rain or shine.
