The Town of Dartmouth has confirmed its first positive case of Covid-19 among its residents.

Public Information Officer Kyle Costa of the Dartmouth Police Department made the announcement in a recorded video posted to the town’s website on March 25.

Covid-19 is an illness caused by a new, highly contagious coronavirus that is breaking out all over the globe.

As of March 25, Massachusetts had 1838 confirmed cases, with 67 in Bristol County. 15 people have died as a result of the illness in the state so far.

In the video, he states that the MA Department of Public Health has management protocols that the town will follow, including engaging additional public health nursing staff.

Costa said over the phone that any identifying information for the confirmed case will be kept private, as Dartmouth is a relatively small town.
