After applying for a "green community" designation, the town is now able to apply for state monies that will promote sustainability and energy-efficient changes.
Town Administrator David Cressman said that Dartmouth received a green community designation, along with a $223,750 grant, from the state Department of Energy Resources.
"This is something the town has tried to achieve for many years," said Cressman, adding that the adoption of Stretch Code at the October Town Meeting helped expedite the application process. Stretch Code is a building code that applies to new residential construction and specific commercial projects.
Cressman said the grant money will most likely go toward school projects, including installing LED lighting.
