Trunk or treating with the town
What kid doesn’t want to trick or treat a week before Halloween, especially if it comes with popcorn, games and ice cream? After a two-year break, Fire District One and Parks and Recreation teamed up for a trunk-or-treat.
“We haven’t been here for a couple of years because the station was under renovation and we’re happy to be back,” said Parks and Recreation director Rebecca Amaral.
Hundreds of kids and families showed up to enjoy the festivities. This was way more than in past years according to Amaral, which she credits to their advertising efforts.
“It’s a great night,” said chief Timothy Lancaster, “We enjoy having all the families and kids come out.”
There were many treats for the kids to enjoy; besides candy, there was cookie monster ice cream sundaes, popcorn and cotton candy provided by Parks and Recreation.
The fire department set up games like toss-the-ring on the witch hat and spin-the-wheel for prizes. They also brought families on rides around Padanaram in a fire truck, honking the horn as they drove back.
Then of course, there was trunk or treating with trucks of all themes. Dartmouth Community Television had a spooky set up with skeletons, Animal Control captured a number of characters from Beetlejuice and the Fire Department had a giant firefighter in their trunk.
Members of the community also had trucks such as Star Wars with a moving R2D2, Wicked, and the cast of mystery gang.
Paul, age 4, agreed he was having fun and stated the candy was his favorite part.
