UMass Dartmouth to host 2016 LusoFest
The UMass Dartmouth community and the general public are invited to a celebration of Portuguese heritage and culture at the 2016 LusoFest, held this year from March 9 to 12. The celebration will include a series of performances and lectures hosted on UMass Dartmouth’s campus.
March 9
Portuguese rock band “Os Desalinhados” will perform followed by a jam session and discussion. The performance starts at 7 p.m. at the UMass Dartmouth College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) building, Room 104.
March 10
There will be a lecture by Dr. Frank Sousa titled “Taking Stock of Portuguese-American Literature” at the CVPA building, Room 153 at 12:30 p.m.
March 11
There will be a night of Portugese music at UMass Dartmouth’s Main Auditorium at 7 p.m. There performance will feature Fado singer Ana Vinagre, who will be accompanied by Sr. Viriato Ferreira and Sr. Jose Silva, followed by the Rancho Folklorico Portugues (Portuguese United for Education).
March 12
At 6 p.m. in the main auditorium, a 150 piece ensemble will play traditional big band repertoire.
