UMass Dartmouth labor center to hold fundraising banquet

UMass Dartmouth’s Labor Education Center will hold a banquet to raise funds for student scholarships on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The scholarships are meant to support student community engagement.

The evening starts with a keynote address by nationally renowned civil rights leader Rev. Dr. William Joseph Barber II. Rev. Dr. William Joseph Barber II will receive the Arnold M. Dubin Award. Rev. Dr. William Joseph Barber II is Co-Chair of the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, Founding Director of the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at Yale Divinity School, Political Action Committee Chair of the NAACP, and the Architect of the Forward Together Moral Movement.

Steven A. Tolman, retiring president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, will also attend. 

Lisa Jochim will be recognized for over 35 years of multilingual and adult education through the Workers' Education Program.

Cynthia Rodrigues will be recognized for her activism as the former President of the Greater Southeastern Mass Labor Council and retired Business Agent of the New England Joint Board, UNITE-HERE, AFL-CIO.

The evening will start with a book signing with Bill Fletcher Jr. from 6 to 6:30 p.m. as he signs his most recent mystery novel set on Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts, “The Man Who Changed Colors.”
