The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is partnering with two other area higher education institutions on a partnership to further offshore wind education.

On June 29, UMass Dartmouth, Bristol Community College, and Massachusetts Maritime Academy officials signed documents to begin Connect4Wind. It will focus on sharing resources to develop a curriculum and a program focused on the offshore wind energy sector.

The agreement specifically includes student participation at each institution, research collaborations, faculty member visits between the colleges, and shared faculty utilization.

The goal of the collaboration is to educate students in offshore wind, which the Department of Energy estimates could add 43,000 new jobs by 2030.

A study by the The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center estimates over the next decade, offshore wind farms will create nearly 3,000 jobs in the state and generate economic impacts between $1.2 billion and $2.1 billion in the region.

“UMass Dartmouth looks forward to building this partnership with Bristol Community College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy to accelerate the development of the offshore wind industry through innovation,” UMass Dartmouth Interim Dean and Professor, College of Engineering Ramprasad Balasubramanian said. “Offshore wind will be a cornerstone of a regional blue economy corridor that expands opportunity for people and communities across the region.”
