UPDATE: Dartmouth woman hit by car dies
A Dartmouth woman has died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening on Russells Mills Road.
On Friday afternoon, a representative of Rhode Island Hospital confirmed that 78-year-old Hortense Medeiros succumbed to her injuries following the accident.
Hortense Medeiros was taken to Rhode Island Hospital after sustaining serious injuries. April Pimental, a 27-year-old from New Bedford, hit Medeiros with her 1996 Toyota Camry after leaving the road, according to Operations Commander Gregg Rutch.
The accident occurred between the two entrances of Dartmouth High School, near the area of 589 Russells Mills Rd.
Emergency personnel responded to the accident around 7:30 p.m. Pimental was taken away by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital and released soon after.
Rutch said that no additional information was available regarding possible charges. The accident is currently under investigation by Officer Jason Arruda and the Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction and Detective Units.
