Update: One unit secured, work continues on another

Apr 21, 2023

Update 4:11 p.m. One unit at the Bristol County House of Correction is under control, with no injuries reported in the operation, according to the latest update from the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office as of 4:11 p.m.

Work is ongoing on an adjacent housing unit, the office reported.

About two hours earlier, the office reported that UPDATE: All staff members are accounted for and none are being held hostage following a disturbance Friday morning at the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth, according to the latest update from the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office.

There is also “no reason to believe’’ that inmates have taken other inmates hostage, the office reported at that same time.

The refusal of some inmates to move to different housing units led to the incident, according to Jonathan Darling, spokesperson for Sheriff Paul Heroux.

The inmates are being moved as part of steps being taken to make the facility more suicide-resistant, Darling said.

Updates will be provided.
