A vehicle fire spread to a garage on Hixville Road and killed two animals on April 2.

District No. 3 firefighters responded to 578 Hixville Road around 12:47 a.m., and found a two-vehicle garage engulfed in flames. Two cats, found in the storage loft above, were killed, said Deputy Chief Ted Borges.

"Once fire crews were able to enter, the fire was quickly extinguished, saving the structure," said Borges.

The cause of the vehicle fire is under investigation.

Borges estimated the damage to both the garage and its contents to be $70,000. The garage is not attached to the home.

Fire District No. 2 and Freetown Fire were called in for backup.
