Wasabi on the market for $1.4 million
University of Massachusetts students may have to look elsewhere for their beloved scorpion bowls. Dartmouth’s Wasabi is officially up for sale.
A large Weichert “for sale” sign went up on July 18 at the 747 State Road location, and can now be seen by the restaurant’s main entrance.
Owner of the sushi and Asian fusion restaurant Sau Wah Lam said (via translater and Wasabi bartender Chris Chaves) that she has decided to sell the restaurant and retire from the restaurant business.
“She just wants to retire and enjoy her golden years,” Chaves said. “It’s very stressful [owning a restaurant.]”
Realtor Byron Ford, Jr. said the asking price for the property is $1.4 million, and the sale will include all furnishings and equipment. Ford said Wasabi will remain open while it is up for sale.
“It’s a prime location,” Chaves said, explaining the location is ideal for a restaurant or other commercial establishment. The restaurant includes 4,744 square feet of space and sits on 1.39 acres of land located near the intersection of Route 6 and Reed Road.
“It has a unique inlet,” he said, adding that access to the restaurant is easier than accessing most Route 6 businesses because vehicles can easily enter the parking lot from both directions of the divided roadway.
The listing follows the reopening of the restaurant, just several weeks after the Dartmouth Board of Health shut it down for health violations.
Lam said she hopes to travel post-retirement, and that visits to Japan and other east Asian countries could be in her future.
