Dartmouth native and former White House photographer Pete Souza is the subject of a new documentary from award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter set to be released this September.

Born in New Bedford, Souza grew up in South Dartmouth, graduating from Dartmouth High School in 1972 before going on to complete his undergraduate degree at Boston University and a master's degree in journalism from Kansas State University.

The trailer for the film, called The Way I See It, came out on August 4.

Souza is perhaps best known for serving as an official photographer for Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama.

His Instagram account has gained millions of followers in recent years due to his often satirical posts directed toward the Trump administration.

The new documentary uses the Dartmouth High alum’s stories and images from his time in the White House to highlight his transition from a photojournalist to political commentator.

“The presidency is a serious job, and I was going to do everything I could to make sure people didn’t forget that,” Souza said in the trailer.
