Water main flushing to begin on April 10
The town Water Department will flush water mains throughout the town from April 10 to June 30, 7-11 p.m.
The object of flushing water is to move water through the water mains at a high speed in order to loosen and remove deposits of iron and manganese that build up inside the pipe, officials said.
Officials explained that flushing necessarily disturbs sediment and can result in temporarily discolored water in your home. The department recommends avoiding laundry and drawing hot water when the water appears discolored. If water appears discolored after 11 p.m., the department recommends letting the water run until it clears.
Homeowners will experience reduced water pressure during the flushing operations due to water being diverted to the hydrants, officials said. This is temporary.
In the event that water pressure does not return after 11 p.m., notify the Water Department at (508) 999-0742.
Check the town's website for flushing dates and locations. Contact Water & Sewer Superintendent Steven Sullivan with any questions.
