Water main flushing September 24 to November 9, 2018

Sep 6, 2018

The Dartmouth Water Department will be flushing water mains throughout the town from September 24 – November 9, 2018 between the hours of 7:00 P.M. – 11:00 P.M.

The goal of flushing is to move water through the water mains at a high speed in order to loosen and remove deposits of iron and manganese that build up inside the pipe. Flushing necessarily disturbs sediment and can result in temporarily discolored water in homes.

The town recommends that residents avoid doing laundry and drawing hot water when water appears discolored due to flushing operations. If water appears discolored after 11:00 P.M., the town recommends letting the water run until it runs clear.

At times, homeowners will experience reduced water pressure during flushing operations due to water being diverted to the hydrants. This is a temporary condition. In the event water pressure does not return to normal after 11:00 P.M., the town requests residents notify the DWD at (508) 999- 0742.

The town apologizes for any inconvenience that may result from the flushing program. Crews do their best to continue to provide clean, clear and safe drinking water to our customers.

Please check town of Dartmouth’s website at https://www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/ for flushing dates and locations. Please contact Steven M. Sullivan, Water & Sewer Superintendent, with any questions by calling (508) 999-0742.
