Wizarding ball raises funds for Potter School library
The Dartmouth Barnes and Noble transformed its halls into a Harry Potter-themed festival for fans of the long-running series on December 9.
Potter Elementary staff teamed up with the bookstore to support the school’s library. Every year, Potter Elementary participates in Barnes and Noble’s annual book fair, through which a percentage of proceeds from both online and in-store sales are donated to the school.
This year, however, the store had planned a wizarding festival — inspired by Harry Potter lore — so school staff decided to host its fundraiser alongside the event, and even help staff it.
“Our school library is completely self-sufficient,” said Assistant Principal Rick Porter. “We stock our school library from these events.”
About 30 staff members helped man themed activities, including owl crafts, pin the scar on Harry Potter’s face, a Harry Potter trivia game, and the oh-so-popular wand- and potion-making tables. Children were provided with wooden sticks to build their own wands, and glitter, water, and cooking oil to create their own magical potions.
In all, more than 200 people attended the event, with proceeds totaling about $800, said Porter. He said the monies will be used to purchase books for the school library.
