Women's History Month events at UMass Dartmouth

The UMass Dartmouth Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality will be holding a series of events to celebrate Women's History Month.

On Monday, March 7, David S. Cohen and Krysten Connon will discuss their co-authored book, “Living in the Crosshairs: Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism.” Nurse practitioner Molly Finneseth will offer remarks. The event will be held in the Claire T. Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room, noon.

On Tuesday, March 8 is “When Love Hurts: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships,” an interactive program to help attendees learn about healthy and successful relationships. It will be held in the Woodland Commons at 6:30 p.m.

Safe Zone Training will be held on Wednesday, March 9 from 3 -5 p.m. Individuals must register prior to training either by calling 508-910-4584 or emailing k.tomase@umassd.edu.

On Thursday, March 10, there will be a screening of “To Educate a Girl” in honor of International Women’s Day Celebration. The screening will be followed by a discussion and networking period. This event will be held at the New Bedford Whaling Museum at 5:30 p.m.

Also on March 10 is the “Advocating for Trans Health” event in the Claire T. Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, March 24, the Sexual Violence on College Campuses: Listening to & Learning from Student Activists event will be held. Keynote speaker Stephanie Gilmore will address the issue of college campus rape. The talk will be held in the Claire T. Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room at 4 p.m.

On Friday, March 25, will be the Dismantling Rape Culture Workshop featuring keynote speaker Stephanie Gilmore. The event will be held in the Claire T. Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room from 9 – 10 a.m., noon- 1:00 p.m. and 2- 3 p.m. Guests can choose to attend one workshop or all three.

On Wednesday, March 30, Dr. Kristen Abatsis McHenry will be discussing her book, “The Politics of Pink Ribbon: A Look a Breast Cancer Activism in the U.S.” The event will be held in the Claire T. Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room at noon.
