YMCA to hold annual maple sugaring program

Feb 29, 2016

The annual Sweet Science of Maple Sugaring program will will be held on March 12, 19 and 20 at the Dartmouth YMCA.

Originally created by the Dartmouth Children’s Museum, the maple sugaring program was very popular and served over 1,000 students each winter. The Dartmouth YMCA has carried on the tradition that started over 25 years ago. In 2014, the Dartmouth YMCA’s Sharing the Harvest Community Farm began overseeing it as a compliment to the YMCA's agricultural education programming.

The program will consist of hour-long tours from 9 to 11 a.m. Tours will include tree identification, history of maple sugaring, sap collection, tasting and sugaring. The Dartmouth YMCA will end their maple sugaring season with a free pancake breakfast on Sunday, March 20 at 10 a.m. After the breakfast, guests can explore our maple grove with a self guided map.

All events will be held rain or shine.
