Dartmouth girls get shot at redemption
The Indians will get another shot at Medfield High.
Last year’s Dartmouth High girls lacrosse team fell to the Warriors in the semifinals of the Division 2 East tournament, but this year's team will get to face Medfield again Wednesday night after a 15-10 win over North Attleboro at home.
Despite the wet, chilly conditions of Monday afternoon, Dartmouth provided an offensive onslaught throughout while without Emily Quinn, one of their top scorers who’s sat for all but five of Dartmouth’s games with a leg injury.
The Indians got six goals from Grace Gamache and five from Jenn Wheaton, as well as strong goaltending from senior Ellie Gamache, who had 15 saves.
First year Head Coach Megan Lawler said the team played well all-around.
“They worked well together, made great cuts offensively, and passed well on the offensive end, too,” she said. “They made great transitional passes as well.”
North Attleboro cut an 11-5 Dartmouth lead at halftime to 12-8 about midway through the second half, but goals from Ally Martin, Grace Gamache, and Wheaton gave the girls a comfortable lead coming down the homestretch.
Though Quinn said she is recovering, she won’t be back for Wednesday’s game. Still, Lawler said her team will be ready to face the top seed.
“We’re looking forward to having another chance to play Medfield,” said Lawler. “We know they trap in the midfield, and we’re prepared for that.”
The eighth-seeded Indians (13-4-1) will face Medfield High (14-3-1) in the quarterfinals in Medfield on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
