321 Elm opens its doors in Padanaram Village

The corner of Elm Street is starting to change.

About two weeks ago, 321 Elm opened its doors to the public, the first of a few businesses that should soon fill up the spots once taken by the former Bridge Street Cafe and the nearby residences that sit side-by-side on one of the corners of Elm Street and Bridge Street.

At 321 Elm, a variety of different products are available, from men’s and women’s clothing to housewares to toys and penny candy for kids.

Manager Nancy Twaits said that so far, reception has been good in the Village for the shop that she described as having a “beachy” feel.

“I think our neighbors and local folks are very happy to see a clean, new building at the main intersection of Padanaram,” said Twaits of the location, which once entirely complete will likely be home to more retail locations or possibly even a restaurant.

“We have a contemporary look,” she added.

Currently, 321 Elm sells Vineyard Vines clothing, a popular local brand founded in Martha’s Vineyard, as well as Southern Tide on the men’s side of things.

“The Vineyard Vines is very popular, and it’s also very hard to find,” said Twaits. “We have a vast assortment of women’s clothing, too.”

So far, one of the most popular lines at the store has been the SoDa, or South Dartmouth, and Padanaram-themed products from sweatshirts and tees to cups, stickers and magnets.

“It’s kind of fun,” said Twaits of the local brand.

In all, Twaits thinks the variety of products and brands at the new store will bring a fun mix to the Village.

“It’s an eclectic mix of things,” she said.

321 Elm is open seven days a week.
