Under-12 Dartmouth team wins South Coast Soccer League
The Dartmouth Under-12 Boys Spring Soccer team had quite the season.
The traveling team won the South Coast League, which is made up of teams from Cape Cod to Seekonk, after posting an 8-0 record in the regular season.
In the playoffs, the group beat Martha’s Vineyard by a score of 3-0 and the Dighton 2-1 to move on to the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions in Lancaster in June.
There, the team made it to the semifinals before losing in overtime to Weymouth.
Coach John Couto said the group has been together for the past three years, playing spring, fall, and winter soccer together. He said that in its first year, the team won only one game.
“The longer you keep a team together, the better they do,” he said. “The team really gelled.”
“This was a lot of work done for the last three years,” he added. “That’s the reason for their success.”
Couto said the team recorded 10 shutouts, with goalie Declan Markey playing in net for all of the team’s games.
He said the group especially enjoyed their overnight stay in Lancaster.
“The kids had a blast,” he said. “We had a great a time. It was a great season.”
