Dartmouth man dies in motorcycle accident in Tiverton

The Tiverton Police Department has confirmed that a 19-year-old Dartmouth man was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident.

Tiverton Police said that on Aug. 27 at around 4 p.m., Joseph Araujo, 19, was operating a 2003 Honda CBR600 when it collided with a 2007 Ford Explorer operated by Jeanne Thurston, 56, of Little Compton, Rhode Island, at the intersection of Main Road and Pond Bridge Road.

Thurston and Araujo were transported to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River where Araujo later died from his injuries.

Detective Lieutenant Michael Carr and Officer Matthew Braun are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash with the assistance of investigators from the Little Compton and Portsmouth Police Departments.

Police said Thurston was wearing a safety belt and Araujo was wearing a helmet.
