Virginia A. (Johnson) Ramos, 70, of Dartmouth died Sunday, Dec. 6 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Joseph M. Ramos.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Samuel and Irene (LeDuc) Johnson, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.

Mrs. Ramos was formerly employed by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles until her retirement.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.

Mrs. Ramos was a member of the Red Hat Society and a volunteer at the Zeiterion Theater, the Dartmouth Senior Center and the St. Anthony of Padua Food Pantry.

She enjoyed painting and reading and loved spending time at her grandchildren's sporting events.

Survivors include husband; her daughter, Sheri Francis and her husband Thomas of New Bedford; her stepchildren, Pamela Cruz of New Bedford, Patricia Ramos and Johanna Ramos Smoot and her husband Sandy, all of Dartmouth, and Julia Ramos Johnson of Boston; her siblings, Veronica Roy of Connecticut and Julio Johnson of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Marlene, Justin, and Daniel Matos, and Austin and Chase Francis; five great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Arlene Matos, stepmother of the late Joseph M. "JoJo" Ramos, Jr., and sister of the late Samuel Johnson and Manuel Vieira.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 9 a.m. from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 10 a.m.
