Chiron Physical Therapy comes to Dartmouth

Dec 22, 2015

With locations already established in Marion and Mattapoisett, Chiron Physical Therapy has come to Dartmouth to help patients recover from injuries. Unlike its two other locations, Dartmouth’s branch will offer aquatic therapy.

Chiron Physical Therapy has opened its newest location, a 2,700 square-foot facility, inside HealthTrax Fitness and Wellness on Faunce Corner on Dec. 9.

Chiron specializes in youth sports injuries as well as health and wellness, postoperative rehabilitation, knee, shoulder and ankle pain, and arthritis. Treatments typically consist of one hour long physical therapy sessions with programs catered specifically to the individual patient’s needs. Chiron’s “PERFECT PT” breaks down their promise to patients for a personalized experience that guarantees, education, time and results.

“[We] are excited about our newest clinic and to be offering our own unique patient experience to the Dartmouth community,” said Chiron CEO Dave MacDonald. “We have developed an exceptional affiliation with HealthTrax and together we will be able to offer services from wellness and fitness to full recovery for the members of the community."

Chiron’s two existing locations have focused on community outreach. The Marion location works closely with Tabor Academy and Old Rochester Regional students and athletes. Chiron has already begun reaching out to Bishop Stang High School and Dartmouth High School to begin assessing potential patients. The clinics also work closely with their towns’ respective veterans, nursing homes and youth sports programs.

“We have a great relationship with the surrounding hospitals so we do work with them to take their overflow because… we can get our patients in between 24 to 48 hours of scheduling. A lot of the hospitals [are] so busy, they’re two, three weeks out,” said Community Relations Specialist Kimberly Thomas.

Some programs locals and students may start seeing include concussions clinics and fit kid programs. Run by Chiron’s certified personal trainer, Evan Costa, the fit kid program, geared toward 10 to 13 year olds, focuses on stability, strength and agility training.

“We’re going to try to keep that going in each community that we’re in,” Thomas said.

The marriage between HealthTrax and Chiron was ideal because “a lot of [our] belief with working with patients is [we] want to get them moving, and we want to get them active,” said Thomas.

HealthTrax also provides one element the other clinics do not have: a pool. The Dartmouth Chiron will provide acute patients with aquatic rehab. The program is slated to begin in early 2016.

This is the third Chiron clinic to open in the South Coast area. The first is located in Marion and has been operational for nearly five years. The second clinic, nearly a year old, is located in Mattapoisett.

They will be operating on a limited schedule until Jan. 4 when they will be open full time.
