Dartmouth police catch suspected mail thief

Police have identified and charged the man who had been caught stealing mail from several mailboxes in Dartmouth.
Police said that, following a two-week investigation, Dartmouth detectives found and charged Nicholas Lewis, 25, of Middle Street, New Bedford with mail theft.
Lewis was arraigned on Dec. 30 in Third District Court on charges of vandalism and larceny of property up to $250, police said. He is currently being held on $5,000 bail regarding the charges.
On Dec. 18, Dartmouth police had posted on Facebook asking the public for help identifying a man driving a blue Saturn Vue.
The police department extended its thanks to the community for assistance during the investigation.
