Dartmouth YMCA to Host Mud Run, 5k and Fall Festival

Aug 30, 2016

The Dartmouth YMCA will be hosting its annual Fall Family Festival on September 17. The event is highlighted by the Third Annual Mud Run and 5k Road Race. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Y’s Annual Campaign, that allows all people to enjoy Y activities such as swim lessons and day camps regardless of income.

The day begins with a 5k road race at 9 a.m. The course is a down and back pattern on relatively flat ground, and welcoming to runners of all levels. Registration for the 5k is $25 until September 9, and $30 thereafter. The first 100 registrants will receive a commemorative, moisture wicking t-shirt, and the top three overall finishers will receive a YMCA prize package.

The Mud Run, historically only available for children ages 5-12, will welcome a limited amount of teen and adult participants this year. The run takes place on the Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, where staff and volunteers transition the used field space into obstacles, mud pits and other challenges. Participants will be grouped into waves by age. The first wave will start at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $15 until September 9, and $20 after that date. Last year, this event reached capacity at 150 runners, so organizers are encouraging participants to register early.

The Fall Family Festival will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature live entertainment, local craft vendors, carnival games, inflatable amusements and more. For the first time ever, Folia will be hosting a children’s fashion show during the event.

Due to construction on the Padanaram Causeway and Smith Neck Road, the Y’s annual 10k has been cancelled for 2016.
