Survey shows road repairs, recycling services have improved
Town roads are improving, as are beaches and parks, and trash collection, according to three years of town surveys.
Town Administrator David Cressman unveiled the results of the Citizens’ Survey — which was conducted online in 2016, 2013, and 2012 — at the December 19 Select Board meeting.
In 2012, 42.3 percent of respondents rated the quality of street repairs as “poor”; in 2016, this percentage dropped to 19.72 percent. Excellent responses increased from 4.2 percent in 2012 to 17.98 percent in 2016.
Town parks and beaches also received better reviews. In 2012, 23.4 percent of respondents rated them as “excellent,” which increased to 36.15 percent in 2016.
Solid waste and recycling service received better marks in 2016 – nearly 40 percent rated it “excellent,” while only 15.8 percent gave it the same mark in 2012. Residents are also more satisfied with recycling collection, which with 35.21 percent rating it “excellent”; that rating was 21.1 percent in 2012.
Ratings of the town’s library services had little change from 2012, with excellent ratings hovering in the low 30s. The ranking of recreation programs also changed little, with 63 percent rating them from excellent to fair in 2012, compared to 59.44 percent who rated them similarly in 2016.
It is currently unclear how many residents filled out the survey in 2016, 2013, and 2012.
