Mary Ann Bettencourt, 73, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Robert L. Bettencourt and the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Lucas) Mello, Sr.

Bettencourt was a lifelong resident of this area, a graduate of Dartmouth High School, and worked as a bookkeeper for the Dartmouth Public School System.

She is survived by three children, Robert M. Bettencourt and his wife Heather L. of Tewksbury, Jeremy W. Bettencourt and his wife Nicole M. of Mansfield, and Bryan C. Bettencourt and his spouse John C. of Salem; five grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Nathan, Grace, and Brayden Bettencourt; siblings, Donald Mello of New Bedford, Carol Groves of Tiverton, Rhode Island; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was predeceased by her brother, Frank Mello, Jr.

Her funeral will be held on December 28 at 8:45 a.m. at Perry Funeral Home in New Bedford, with a mass of Christian burial to take place at St. Mary’s Church in Padanaram at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be December 27, 5–8 p.m. The family has requested that those attending the wake to not wear anything black.
