Select Board chair comments on the Padanaram Causeway

Feb 20, 2017

To the Editor:

In my role as chair of the Dartmouth Select Board, I am pleased that we have been able to keep the rehabilitation project on the Padanaram Causeway continuing during the winter months saving valuable time. Please permit me to express appreciation on behalf of the town to many people who are working together to keep the construction moving forward.

We are especially grateful to Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito for recognizing that the causeway and bridge are an important transportation link to the commerce and convenience of the town and for using her office to advance the project’s progress.

We appreciate the collaborative support of Mary-Joe Perry and Kimberly Sloan at MassDOT and Jennifer McCarthy at the Army Corps of Engineers. Credit goes to David Janik of Coastal Zone Management, David Hill of Waterways Regulation Program and Eileen Feeney of the Division of Marine Fisheries for their work regarding the environmental restrictions associated with the project. Also deserving kudos are Jamie Pisano from VHB Engineering Inc., John Rocchio of the John Rocchio Corp. and, locally, Mike O’Reilly of the Dartmouth Conservation Commission.

Lastly, let’s give a shout out to Mother Nature for going easy on us so far. Even if there is bad weather in March and April, the work will move forward.

Sincerely,

Stanley M. Mickelson

Dartmouth Select Board Chair
