Elementary students awarded for anti-bullying messages

Seventeen Dartmouth students were awarded for winning entries in an anti-bullying contest on May 5.
The Quinn Elementary students gathered at Bridgewater State University with several teachers to receive awards for their entries in the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center’s (MARC) Anti-Bullying Poster and Essay Contest.
MARC Director Dr. Elizabeth Englander created the state-wide contest twelve years ago to encourage elementary students to think about bullying prevention and making schools more inclusive and safer places to learn. The contest is open to all third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Each student is asked to submit a response to a grade level question in the form of a poster or essay. This year, more than 100 students participated.
Third grade honorees included Leila Hijazi, Abigail Oliveira, and Mariele Turner; Caroline Huston and Elizabeth Furtado won first place.
Fourth grade winners included Emma Kate Carvalho, Sydney Leary, Lanah Oliveira, Ella Salvador, Samuel Arvisais, Aidan Cruz, Eugene Jung, and Cameron Moniz.
Fifth grade winners included Skyla Duggan, Olivia Bloom-Glover, Samantha Camara, and Tessa Renzo.
The Quinn School has participated and had winners in this contest since its inception. It is part of the school's ongoing Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) and bullying prevention programming.
