Edith Joan (Fonseca) Mello, 78, of Dartmouth, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Carlos V. "Carl" Mello, Jr. and daughter of the late Manuel and Edith O. (Vieira) Fonseca.

She was born in New Bedford and a member of Smith Mills Congregational Church, where she played the organ and was also choir director. She was employed at Titleist as a research technician until her retirement.

She was a former member of The Lions Club and a member of the Keynotes, the senior chorus at the Dartmouth Council On Aging. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and gardening.

Her family includes her husband; her daughter, Jennifer A. Mello of New Bedford; her stepson, Michael R. Mello and his wife, Katherine, of New Bedford; her brother, Robert Fonseca of Vermont; 2 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Nick Steele.
