After witnessing an act of selflessness by a young boy at its annual toy drive, Dartmouth Police appealed to the community on its Facebook page to repay the favor.

On December 18, police posted a story of a scene which took place at its Fill-A-Bus Toy Drive, held at the Dartmouth Target on December 9. An office watched a young boy take several toys his mother had just bought for him, and add them to the department’s basket of toys to donate to kids in need.

“No mom, it’s more important for another kid to have it,” the boy said, according to the Facebook post.

Although officers did not manage to get the boy’s name on Saturday, the Facebook post included a plea for followers to share the post in the hope of identifying the boy, as the department “have a little something for him at DPD,” the post read.

That did not take long at all.

After being shared close to 500 times, and in just under 24 hours, officers soon had their kid: Lucas Ross, a student at Quinn Elementary School.

After speaking to his parents for some quick gift ideas, officers and Acting Chief Brian Levesque stopped by the school to present Ross with a certificate of appreciation and a department patch.

As an added bonus, officers had several toy Nerf blasters to present to Ross, after learning from his father that they’re his favorite toys.
