Steven D. Pontes, of Dartmouth, passed away on January 12, 2018 unexpectedly.

After growing up and attending school in New Bedford, Steve moved to Dartmouth and resided there for the last 30 years.

He started a family, and became a beloved father to his two girls. An exemplar of a hard worker, being motivated, productive and constructive, Steve co-owned and operated Pontes Excavating Company with his brother Glenn.

He found his enjoyment being on the water. Buzzards Bay and his powerboat was an escape and where he would be whenever he had free time. Interested in sports, he found joy in watching football and hockey. Interested in hockey a majority of his adolescent life, it gave him an opportunity to play the sport semi-pro.

His humorous personality created a light that expanded and became part of numerous people, touching the lives of family, friends, co-workers and business associates. He was truly a one of a kind man, and will forever be loved and missed by many.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Frances and Lily of Dartmouth; his father Alfred and his late mother, Marilyn; his brother Glenn and sister-in-law Robyn; his three nephews, Nicholas, Andrew and Joshua, all of New Bedford; and also a companion, Christine Sparks.

Visiting hours will be held on January 18, 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 19 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be private.
