Several businesses will host the second annual South Coast Food Insecurity Forum about food insecurity and projects to combat the problem at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth on March 28.

The event will take place in the Grand Reading Room at Carney Library from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and focuses on “bridging the gap between hunger and health."

The panel discussion will look at new ways to create food security in the South Coast, an area with an economic need for such work.

The expert panelist are form several different businesses. These include Coastline Elderly Services, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, Southcoast Health, Community Nurse Home Care, and the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center.

Christine Sullivan, a nutritionist at Coastline Elderly Services said the event is a good opportunity to gain more knowledge about food insecurity.

“This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the local food system and the diverse projects taking place all over the South Coast region to combat food insecurity,” Sullivan said.
