Causeway on schedule to open in June

May 8, 2018

The Padanaram bridge and causeway is scheduled to reopen on June 11, according to Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials.

The causeway has been closed for two years while it undergoes a $9.2 million project to revamp its roadway, drainage, structural, and lighting systems.

Residents had hoped it would be open by Memorial Day Weekend, however due to several March nor’easters and a cold wet spring the date was pushed back to its contracted schedule date.

As for the Memorial Day parade, it will begin at St. Mary’s Church this year rather than Apponagansett Park since people are unable to cross the bridge, according to Select Board Chairman Shawn McDonald.

As for the wreath laying ceremony, those details are still being worked out.
