Town awarded heating grant
The Town of Dartmouth has been awarded $20,000 from the state attorney general’s office to provide heat and fuel assistance, Director of Development Cody Haddad announced Monday.
Money from the grant will be used over the next two fiscal years, Haddad said.
The grant announcement builds on the AG office’s prior Natural Gas Fuel Assistance grant program by expanding the types of fuel sources that are eligible for assistance to include electricity, oil and propane, in addition to natural gas.
“With the rise of home heating cost, it’s certainly needed now more than ever,” Haddad said.
So far, Haddad said, the program has served 56 households in Dartmouth — 42 of which had an elder in the house, 13 had a minor, seven had persons with disabilities, and six were veterans.
“We really provided assistance to a wide range of Dartmouth residents,” he said. “We look forward to expanding the program.”
