Town to re-establish homebuyer assistance program
The Select Board voted unanimously on Monday, March 14 to appropriate $20,000 toward hiring a consultant to help reintroduce the town’s homebuyer assistance program.
The program, which began in 2018, offers grants to first-time homebuyers who are below a certain income threshold.
Due to the pandemic, the program was put on delay, Director of Development Cody Haddad said.
In the past, homebuyers could get a grant of up to $110,000 for a two-bedroom home or $150,000 for a three-bedroom home.
Haddad said that as the program is reintroduced, and with the cost of living higher than it was in 2019, his office plans to increase the amount of grant funding a household can get.
“[This way] they can actually buy a home in Dartmouth and stay here,” he said.
Haddad added that he anticipates that applications will be available later in the year.
