UMass Dartmouth to host event featuring Guatemalan human rights experts

Oct 21, 2022

On Thursday, Oct. 27, two indigenous rights advocates from Guatemala will visit the UMass Dartmouth to explain the current situation in Guatemala.

Corrupt political, military, and economic elites have captured the state, rural and indigenous communities are under attack, and migration to the U.S. continues to grow — with some migrants settling on the SouthCoast.

Thelma Cabrera and Neftalí López are leaders of the Committee for Peasant Development and will speak about Guatemala: Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples and Migration.

The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Frederick Douglass Unity House.

The talk will be in Spanish with an English translation.
