Two Bishop Stang students honored with NAACP scholarships
Two 2024 Bishop Stang High School graduates were awarded $1,000 scholarships at the NAACP 35th Annual Freedom Fund Breakfast on June 1.
Janie Correia and Brooklynn Andrews are members of the NAACP New Bedford branch youth council, which is open to all students in the Greater New Bedford area.
Correia will attend the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth majoring in legal studies. Correia was a captain of the cheerleading team and a member of the National Honor Society.
Andrews will attend Howard University in Washington, D.C. and will study Psychology. She also plans to obtain a graduate degree and pursue a career as a child forensic psychologist or psychiatrist.
Andrews is a member of the National Honor Society and she participated in volleyball, track and lacrosse. She was a member of student organizations including Campus Ministry, Diversity Council, Music Ministry, Peer Mentors, Student Ambassadors, and Soul Sistahs.
