300 years of history
Bird enthusiasts and history buffs alike can learn about Dartmouth native and author Ben Shattuck’s new book “The History of Sound” at a book tour launch on Monday, July 8 at Westport’s Dedee Shattuck Gallery, 1 Partner’s Lane.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and will also include Pakistani-American filmmaker and author Sadia Shepard.
Shattuck’s book, which publishes on Tuesday, July 9, explores “the unexpected ways the past returns to us and how love and loss are entwined and transformed over generations” through 12 fictional short stories.

Build blocks and bonds
Kids between the ages of 6 and 12 are invited to build their wildest creations at the Southworth Library’s Lego Club.
The club takes place Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. until July 30.
Legos are provided and no registration required.
Children’s author talk
Join the Dartmouth library for a virtual visit to Deckawoo drive with author Kate DiCamillo on July 9 at 2 p.m.
Newbery Medal winner DiCamillo will share the stories behind the creation of her “Mercy Watson” chapter book series, along with the follow up series, “Tales from Deckawoo Drive.” The event will also celebrate the publication of the final book in the “Mercy Watson” series.
DiCamillo has published more than 30 children’s books throughout her career. From 2014 to 2015, she served as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.

Crave crafting?
The Dartmouth Library invites the community’s creatives for Craft Wednesdays now until Aug. 7.
Two sessions will be held each Wednesday — at 10 a.m. at the North Branch and 2 p.m. at Southworth.
Registration is required and can be completed on the library’s events calendar.
Tuesday, July 16
Half-century harmony
Join the Dartmouth Community Band on Tuesday, July 16 to celebrate its 50 year anniversary.
The band will be playing throw back songs, giving out awards and recognizing its history at the Apponagansett Park Gazebo from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
