Over 100 backpacks of school supplies donated to Dartmouth
Over 100 backpacks filled with school supplies were donated by School on Wheels Massachusetts for students in Dartmouth Public Schools, announced the Select Board at its Monday, Aug. 26 meeting.
The donation was organized by Dartmouth’s Youth Advocate Deloris Joseph and the bags were delivered to the schools by Select Board Member Heidi Silva Brooks.
School on Wheels Massachusetts is a nonprofit that aims to support the educational needs of students across the state through donations and volunteer work.
Bags were stocked with supplies for each grade level and were delivered to the schools ahead of the first day.
“The nice thing about having these backpacks is when a student gets on the bus on the first day of school and they’re the only kid that doesn’t have a backpack or supplies the administration and social workers have it for them,” said Brooks. “That kid goes from being anxious about not being like everyone else to having a backpack and supplies.”
