Police investigate assault at Dartmouth High School
A student at Dartmouth High School is facing a number of assault charges following an altercation with a fellow student on Wednesday, Jan. 15, Dartmouth Police announced.
Around 10:30 a.m. police responded to the school where officers learned the victim was approached by the suspect, a fellow student who was known to them, in the hallway and attempted to stab the victim using a pen with a screwdriver on the other end.
The victim was able to get away by running into a nearby open office and was not physically injured, according to police. Both students were safely separated when the school issued a “shelter in place” to allow school staff and police to locate the weapon.
The suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital and is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery and assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt during this incident,” said Police Chief Brian P. Levesque. “We’re grateful for the quick response and close collaboration between officers of the Dartmouth Police Department and staff at the Dartmouth High School to not only contain this incident, but for the professionalism and compassion displayed responding to a call for service of this nature.”
