To the editor:

 

In the latest election for Board of Health only nine percent of eligible voters went to the polls. That is shocking. Admittedly it was an off year with only one contest but even in a more contentious election Dartmouth rarely exceeds twenty percent. It appears the citizens of Dartmouth don’t believe in democracy as they give away one of their most precious and important rights. How can we convince others of the importance of this sacred right that our forbears have fought, bled and died for? Everyone needs to be reminded of the critical importance of voting.
