From woodworking to video production, Dartmouth students at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech demonstrated their technical skills and earned top honors at the SkillsUSA District 1 Competition held Feb. 28.

The event brought together students from technical high schools across Southeastern Massachusetts to compete in written and hands-on challenges in a range of vocational areas. Of the 104 Greater New Bedford students who competed, 36 received awards, including 12 gold.

Seven of those award winners hail from Dartmouth:

Michael Silva and Jacob Rocha received a gold medal in “Cabinetmaking” and “Industrial Motor Control,” respectively. Thomas Desmarais, Wyatt Mongie, and Ian Gilmore earned silver medals in “Team Works,” while Aiden Buck received silver in “Television (Video) Production.” Landen Dourado was awarded a bronze medal in “Automated Manufacturing.”

All gold medalists, most silver medalists and some bronze medalists will advance to the SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Competition, scheduled for May 1 to 3 in Marlborough.

Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech congratulated all participating students for their “dedication, hard work and outstanding representation” of the school and expressed pride in those advancing to the state level.
