September opening slated for Chick-fil-A
Chicken fans have something to click about: Chick-fil-A restaurant is scheduled to open next month at Faunce Corner and State roads.
A late September opening date is anticipated for the national chicken restaurant, franchise owner Julie Gallagher told the Select Board at their Aug. 11 meeting.
“It’s very exciting for us to see that corner lot being used,’’ Select Board Chair Heidi Silva Brooks said. “Welcome to Dartmouth.’’
The eatery will be located at the site of the former Sears Auto Center on the Dartmouth Mall property.
The business will feature a three-lane drive through with canopies over ordering and food delivery areas, indoor and outdoor patio seating, bike racks, crosswalks, and landscaping that will include the addition of several trees.
The board granted the business a common victualler license, which is required for businesses that sell food and beverages on site.
Gallagher, who lives in Mattapoisett, previously owned and operated the Fall River location.
The nationally known chain restaurant began in 1946 with S. Truett Cathy's restaurant, the Dwarf Grill, in Hapeville, Ga. Cathy later developed a pressure-fryer method to cook chicken sandwiches quickly,
This led to the first Chick-fil-A restaurant, which opened in 1967 in Atlanta.
The establishment is known for its chicken-centric menu and for being closed on Sundays.
