Turnip the beat

The Dartmouth Farmers & Artisan Market is open every Friday until Oct. 24.
Fresh fruits and vegetables along with handmade crafts may be on the horizon for those who stop by between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Shoppers can find the market at 789 Dartmouth Street, alongside St. Mary’s Church in South Dartmouth.

Movie with the police

Join the Dartmouth Police Department and Police Athletic Association for a movie family night at Apponagansett Park, located at 77 Gulf Road.
They will be screening DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon.” Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin around sunset.
There will be popcorn, ice cream, police cars and games. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and/or blanket and to wear their comfiest pajamas.
This is a free community event. The popcorn and drinks are also provided at no cost.

Saturday, Aug. 23

Honor those who served

Celebrate those who give their time to the country.
Military & First Responder Appreciation Weekend is coming to the Running Brook Vineyard.
The event will be on Saturday, Aug. 23 and Sunday, Aug. 24 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a market full of handmade goods, jewelry, baked goods and more. The vineyard is located at 335 Old Fall River Road.
There will also be live music, free activities, food trucks, photography and free games.
Military and first responder vehicles will be at the event.
Any vendor that is a veteran or an active duty member will have their vendor fee waived and have the option of making a donation.

En plein air

Join the artists capturing the scenes of the village “en plein air” in the seventh annual Wet Paint Padanram hosted by the Dartmouth Cultural Center Saturday, Aug. 23.
The event invites artists of all experience levels to paint outdoors in scenic Padanaram Village. The event will culminate in an Art Adoption Party on the same day, at 4:30 p.m., where the public can view and purchase the freshly painted works. The Dartmouth Cultural Center welcomes Ron Fortier as this year’s juror. Learn more about Fortier at ronfortier.net.

Overdose Awareness

Dartmouth’s annual Overdose Awareness event is set to take place at Town Hall on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a number of speakers, but also many community partners who will be there to help connect the community with resources.
Stepping Stone’s Peer-to-Peer Program, Seven Hills, the Dartmouth Community Justice Support Center, both the Dartmouth and New Bedford Health Departments and others will be in attendance.
