Believe it or not, smoke can actually be helpful.

The Department of Public Works will be conducting smoke testing from Sept. 2 through Sept. 5 in the area of Bliss Corner to Redgate Corner.

By pushing smoke through the sewer pipes, the department can identify points of inflow and infiltration by seeing where the smoke escapes. This smoke is not real and poses no harm to health and will not stain. 

By identifying these points of extraneous flow, workers can remove them and reduce the costs to maintain and operate the town sewer system.
