Get him to the Greek.

The Annual Greek Festival will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church on September 16, 17, and 18. This three-day food festival, now in its sixth year at the Church's 186 Cross Road location, will feature a wide selection of Greek food and drink, cultural performances, and Greek music. There will also be church tours for those who wish to learn about the rich traditions of the Greek Orthodox faith. For more information, see the festival’s website: festival.gosaintgeorge.com.

Saturday, September 17

Extend veggie-growing season.

Round the Bend Farm is hosting a workshop on extending the growing season from 10 a.m. to noon. Ashley Brister, of Ashley's Produce, will explain how to keep your garden growing into the winter months for your growing needs and budget. The workshop is $10 for general admission; $5 for CSA members. Register at roundthebendfarm.org.

Get dirty.

The Dartmouth YMCA is hosting its annual Fall Family Festival. The event is highlighted by the Third Annual Mud Run and 5k Road Race. The day begins with a 5k road race at 9 a.m. The course is a down and back pattern on relatively flat ground, and welcoming to runners of all levels. Registration for the 5k is $30. The Mud Run, historically only available for children ages 5-12, will welcome a limited amount of teen and adult participants this year. The run takes place on the Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, and includes obstacles, mud pits, and other challenges. The first wave of participants will start at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $20.

The Fall Family Festival will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature live entertainment, local craft vendors, carnival games, inflatable amusements, and more. For the first time ever, Folia will be hosting a children’s fashion show during the event. For more information, visit ymcasouthcoast.org.

The Rotary Club of Dartmouth will host its first annual Scholastic Chess Tournament from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dartmouth Middle School. The competition is open to all southeastern Massachusetts students through grade 12. Both public and private school students of all skill levels are welcomed. Register online ($5) at senecachess.org, or at the door ($10). Boards and chess pieces, as well as refreshments, will be supplied.

Forget the alcohol.

Helfand Farm Community Garden is hosting a workshop on fermenting. The "Saving Your Harvest: fermenting, freezing, preserving and storage" lecture will feature tips from fellow gardeners and experts on saving your harvest. The Friends of the Elderly will be hosting a wine tasting gala to benefit the Council on Aging at Round Hill from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The gala will feature wine tastings, h'ors d'oeuvres, and music. Say "no" to drugs.

The District Attorney’s Office and Dartmouth Youth Advocate are hosting "Hidden in Plain Sight," an all-day workshop focused on teaching adults to identify signs of drug use. This program also reviews potential hiding places or items that may point to risky behavior; illustrates drug types, drug paraphernalia, and how drugs are used and why; and accesses available resources and what to do if risky behavior is suspected. Thank God for malassadas.

The St. Julie Billiart parish kitchen is hosting a malassada breakfast. Homemade malassadas will be available from 8 a.m. until noon (while they last) at the church hall, located at 494 Slocum Road. Coffee and juice will also be for sale. The event is sponsored by the Ladies Guild.

Rejoice with the Historical Society.

The Dartmouth Historical & Arts Society will host a presentation on Quakers, Baptists, and Congregationalists in Old Dartmouth. The 90-minute presentation, featuring adjunct professor Pam Cole, will start at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. A $5 donation is suggested. DHAS meets at the 1871 Russell's Mills Schoolhouse, located at 1205 Russells Mills Road.
