Beatrice R. (Rogers) Gonsalves, 93, of Dartmouth died Tuesday, October 24, 2023 after a life well lived. She was the wife of the late Lenine M. Gonsalves.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Henrique and Januaria (Teixeira) Rogers, she lived in Dartmouth until retirement. She later lived with her husband, Len, in Florida, Georgia, and Rochester, Massachusetts.
Beatrice was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University, achieving a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree in just three years. She was formerly employed as an Executive Secretary at various companies in New Bedford, then at St. George's School in Newport, RI until she retired.
Beatrice was a happy woman who enjoyed being around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her many friends. She was an avid reader and an excellent knitter, teaching knitting to others and knitting sweaters for the whole family. Beatrice was also very well traveled, having lived in Saudia Arabia and Algeria while Len taught there.
She is survived by two sons, Jerrold Gonsalves and his wife Opal of Florida, and Mark Gonsalves and his wife Donna of Georgia; her daughter, Jan Marie Aarsheim and her husband Knute of Marion; nine grandchildren, Eric Aarsheim and his wife Courtney, Kirby Apjohn and her husband Andrew, Keith Aarsheim and his girlfriend Jamie Eldridge, Stephanie Fritts and her husband Seth, Jeremy Gonsalves and his wife Monica, Taylor Gonsalves, and Sarah, Tyler, and Tobin Blatchford; and six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kenzie, Rylan, Gavin, Cameron, and Madelyn.
She was predeceased by her son, Dennis Gonsalves, and her siblings, Carmelia R. Duponte, Lucy Perry, Laura Rogers, and Henrique "Rick" Rogers.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. Her funeral service and burial in St. John's Cemetery in New Bedford will be private.
