Buzzards Bay Coalition offers subsidies to connect to sewer
The Buzzards Bay Coalition is offering a $5,000 subsidy to qualified homeowners to connect to the sewers through its Connect-to-Protect program.
“Residential septic systems are the single largest source of nitrogen pollution impacting water quality in Apponagansett Bay,” said Michael Gagne, the Connect-to-Protect Coordinator, “Connecting these homes to the sewer lines is the single most important thing homeowners can do to reduce that pollution.”
This applies to households on a septic system surrounding Apponagansett Bay north to Bliss Corner, including those on Buttonwood Brook or in the greater Apponagansett Bay Watershed.
Households making $34,000 or less annually are eligible for a $7,500 grant. Households making more than that can receive a $5,000 subsidy.
The grant, as well as town discounts, can lower the cost to between $1,500 and $4,500. These households can also be eligible for the MASS Housing Rehabilitation Program for no-interest loans.
The Coalition will also connect interested parties with a contractor for a free estimate.
